Ann Ertl


Ann Ertl is an ESL Teaching and Learning Specialist in the Anoka-Hennepin Independent School District (a large school district in the Minneapolis-St. Paul suburbs). In this role, her work has included professional development in the following areas: collaboration between content teachers and language acquisition specialists, curriculum development and alignment to Common Core and other standards for ESL and mainstream classes, differentiation strategies for English language learners (ELLs) in mainstream classes, writing language and content assessments for ELs and mainstream students, and using assessment data to drive instructional decision making. As a certified WiDA trainer, Ann also conducts training on ACCESS for ELLs® and the ELD Standards.

Ann has a wide variety of professional development experiences, both as a participant and a facilitator. She works closely with agencies throughout the planning process, and as former teacher is deeply committed to ensuring that the professional development she delivers meets the needs of participants and that the learning is practical and relevant.

Prior to her current role, Ann was a high school ESL teacher and department chair. Ann holds a B.A. from the University of Minnesota, an M.A. in Teaching with licensure in ESL from Hamline University, and a K-12 principal licensure from Saint Mary's University.
