Joanne Marino


Joanne Marino provides professional development on the English language development (ELD) standards, how these standards connect with the Common Core State Standards and other state standards, and the instructional implications of teaching academic language. Joanne’s experience also lends itself to working with State Departments of Education and district committees on instructional planning.

Prior to joining the WIDA team Joanne had a multi-faceted career in education including content/EFL/ESL teaching, curriculum development, teacher-training, and administration in the U.S. and abroad. She was a state ESL Consultant and Title III Director, taught ESL in grades K-12, and was a high school social studies teacher.

Joanne is a National Board Certified Teacher and holds an M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language and an M.A. in Social Studies from the University of Illinois. In 2003 Joanne was recognized for Teacher Excellence and Professionalism by the Office of English Language Acquisition (OELA).
