Noreen Drucker

Noreen Drucker is an independent educational consultant who began her career as an ESL teacher in a bilingual school in San Jose, Costa Rica. After teaching there for three years, she returned to New Jersey where she taught in a bilingual middle school program for over ten years. She finished her career teaching ESL to immigrant kids in grades K-5. Along the way she taught newly arrived high school students in summer school programs and taught English at night to adults.

She was the recognized as the New Jersey Bilingual Teacher of the Year by NJTESOL-NJBE in 1995. In 2000, in conjunction with the Morris Area Girl Scouts she received a best practices award for “The Latina Mentoring Program”. Although she had always been an advocate for ELLS, the program helped her focus her ideas and create a series of workshops to help teachers understand the needs of ELLs.

Noreen has made presentations to families, administrators, ESL teachers and mainstream teachers. She started in 2000 and has provided professional development in schools throughout New Jersey and in Central America.

Since May, 2009 she has presented on various topics at the New Jersey Teachers of English/ New Jersey Bilingual Educators Annual State Conference. Her passion is exhibited in her work; her presentations are always interactive, engaging and specially designed to meet the needs and expectations of her audience.

Noreen is trained in SIOP and Cooperative Learning and has incorporated many of those ideas into her presentations. Most recently, (2012) she has been working through Montclair State to provide professional development programs to teachers after school. Her last workshop, “What Can I do for the English Language Learners in My Class” was well attended, mostly by mainstream teachers. The focus of that workshop was WIDA’s Can Do descriptors and the standards.

Noreen holds a BS from SUNY New Paltz, and a Masters Degree from Seton Hall University. She is certified in ESL and Bilingual/Bicultural Education. Although she lives on the East Coast, she is willing to travel.
