Paulina Mitropoulos


Paulina Mitropoulos is the Director of ELL Services and Professional Development in the Office of English Language Learners for the Boston Public Schools. She oversees professional development initiatives for teachers and administrators, which serve over 17,000 ELLs across one of the most diverse urban school districts in the country. As such, Paulina leads WIDA ELD Standards Framework implementation to support the language development of ELLs in the state adopted Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) model, which includes ESL and Sheltered Content Instruction. Prior to this role, Paulina served as the ESL/SEI Manager for Boston Public Schools managing the SIOP initiative across 22 schools as well as th 3Ls: Learning, Language, and Literacy Initiative across 16 schools. Utilizing her expertise as a SEI Endorsement Course Instructor for teachers and administrators for the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Paulina has been instrumental in integrating state iniatives into district professional development that impacts the teaching and learning of ELLs.

Paulina has experience teaching ELLs as the Founding 5th grade ELL Specialist at Excel Academy Charter School - Orient Heights in East Boston. In addition, Paulina has taught 6th-8th grade ESL at the Susan B. Anthony Middle School in Revere Public Schools. Paulina is a Teach for America Greater Boston Corps Alum. She received a Graduate Certificate in Bilingual Special Education from George Washington University. She received a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Teaching from Boston University. She also holds a B.A. in International Relations and Hispanic Language and Literature from Boston University.
