Sandra Nahmias


Sandra Nahmias is an educator of ELLs as well as a WIDA Certified Professional Trainer. Mrs. Nahmias facilitates workshops within her school district and the state of NJ. She has worked extensively as a consultant for the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) on a number of projects including scaffolding the Model Curriculum in both English Language Arts and Mathematics for English Language Learners (ELLs) and developing units of study for ELLs integrating the Common Core Content Standards (CCCS) and the WIDA English Language Development standards. She was also an item writer for WIDA's ACCESS for ELLs™ Assessment.

Mrs. Nahmias has been a Bilingual/ESL teacher for over 18 years, currently in Linden, New Jersey. She holds a B.A. in both Spanish and Education, as well as an M.A. in English as a Second Language (ESL) and an M.B.A in Finance. She has certifications in Elementary Education, Spanish, ESL, and Bilingual/Bicultural Education.

Mrs. Nahmias is a member of NJTESOL/NJBE and advocates for her ELL students. Their successful acquisition of English and their well-being and self-esteem and that of their families are what make Mrs. Nahmias passionate about sharing with others her knowledge about WIDA, its guiding principles and core beliefs, and about how language is acquired both in and out of the classroom.
