Tammy has been providing professional development on best practices in the field of ESL and bilingual education since 2005. Prior to becoming a trainer, she served as a district language education program director in a highly diverse school district near Chicago. Before that, she was an ESL resource teacher, a 4th/5th grade bilingual teacher and an adult ESL teacher.

Whether instructing teachers new to the field in the basics of second language acquisition, English language development standards and their instructional implications, or facilitating district committees as they assess and restructure their programs for ELLs, Tammy strives to advocate for the best interests of all students. She is co-author of the book Implementing Effective Instruction for English Language Learners: 12 Key Practices for Administrators, Teachers and Leadership Teams. She also supports WIDA as a blogger. Tammy has a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership/School Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a concentration in Spanish from DePaul University. She also studied for a semester at the Universidad Autonoma de Yucatan in Mexico.
