Pat Morris comes to WIDA after a 28 year career in the field of English Language Learners as a teacher, principal, district program director, and state department of education ELL coordinator. Pat began her career in Central Falls, Rhode Island as an ELL teacher and remained in the district for 26 years. During her tenure as director, she was responsible for re-structuring the ELL program to include a dual language program strand and integrating more proficient English Language Learners into a mainstream setting. Pat was responsible for the identification and placement for all new students, which included the administration of the W-APT to several hundreds of students and administered ACCESS for ELLs assessment in the district.

Pat brought many professional development opportunities to the district including Dr. Nancy Cloud and Dr. Deborah Short. They worked with the teachers on Academic Literacy in a Second Language, and SIOP, delivered by Dr. Deborah Short over a period of 4 years. The district was invited to be part of the LADDER pilot from the WIDA Consortium for 2 years, which resulted in Pat being trained as a LADDER coach.
Pat instructed as an adjunct in the TESL program at Rhode Island College and teaches in Wheelock Collegeā??s Sheltered English Immersion coursework. Pat has been a long standing member of the RI ELL Advisory Council and was a member of the Board of Directors of RITELL, the Rhode Island TESOL affiliate.

Pat has made several presentations at RITELL, TESOL, NABE, and MATSOL conferences. She has delivered many professional development sessions to districts in her role as the State Coordinator for ELL Programs in Rhode Island to teachers, coaches and principals on the WIDA ELD standards, ACCESS for ELLs, and the W-APT. Pat tries to make the learning fun in her presentations focusing on classroom strategies and activities teachers can bring back to their classrooms.

Pat holds a degree in Elementary Education from Rhode Island College and a Masterā??s Degree in Administration from Providence College.
