Steve Cawthon is an independent educational training consultant in the field of English as a Second Language. He has thirty-one years of experience in the classroom as a special education teacher, English/Language Arts teacher, Gifted specialist and ESL specialist. He has taught and trained teachers for twenty-two years and, most recently, supervised the ESL program at thirty-four schools in DeKalb County Schools, Georgia, with approximately 141 different languages and twenty percent of the students being refugees.

Steve is also an independent WIDA certified consultant where he trains educators on the ACCESS for ELLs, the WIDA-ACCESS Placement Test (W-APT) and the WIDA standards. Steve instructs educators and LEAs about how to use WIDA assessments for the development of instruction. He is a Title III specialist providing support for LEAs, the district level and the state level.

Steve has presented workshops and demonstrations at various conferences locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. He has been the opening keynote speaker for Peru TESOL and trained teachers in various countries.

Besides sharing stories about his two Great Danes, Steve has plenty of experiences and anecdotes to share from his days working in education.
