Get Certified as a WIDA Trainer

Through the certification process, you can gain the expertise to create professional development opportunities that are transformational for educators of ELLs using WIDA products. Certification participants will be able to:

  • Understand and explain the connection between WIDA Standards and Assessment
  • Articulate the theoretical foundations of WIDA's work in educator-friendly terms
  • Contextualize WIDA resources into dynamic PD opportunities

Application Process

Submit application form and two reference forms between January 1 and April 15, 2012

Receive approval by May 1, 2012

Register by May 30, 2012

Pre-Institute Work

Complete home learning opportunities: readings, journal, and discussion board: Due June 20, 2012

Participate in Academic Language and the Standards Webinar: Late June

Participate in Academic Language and ACCESS for ELLs Webinar: Early July

Institute

Attend July 30 - August 3, 2012 in Madison, WI

Review agenda

Prepare for presentation on last day of Institute

Costs

$1500 for a district/state-sponsored attendee.*

$4000 for an independent consultant or higher education faculty member.**

*State/District-sponsored attendees will be certified to train on WIDA resources only within the scope of their work in their State/District. Your employer will need to provide assistance in evaluating your work as a WIDA Consultant.

**Independent Consultants are able to advertise their ability to facilitate WIDA workshops and work outside of their local region. Employees of Institutes of Higher Education, Educational Services Agencies, and other Non-Profit Education Agencies are considered Independent Consultants.
