WIDA CAN DO Descriptors

Recommended Time: 2 hours - 1 day
Introduction to use of the CAN DO Descriptors for differentiating instruction. The CAN DO Descriptors complement the WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards and provide a valuable resource for collaboration among all teachers who interact with ELL students. The CAN DO Descriptors are designed to support teachers by providing information on the language students are able to understand and produce in the classroom.

WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards

Recommended Time: 1 - 3 days
Introduction to the organization, structure, and use of the ELP Standards. Participants will learn how to use the ELP Standards for differentiation and scaffolding of academic language development. The WIDA ELP Standards focus on the language needed and used by ELLs to succeed in school. These standards are designed for all stakeholders in the field of education who are working with English language learners. Included in this audience are English language learners and their family members, teachers, principals, district level administrators, assessment developers, higher education educators, and other stakeholders in the educational lives of ELLs.

ACCESS for ELLs® Test Administration

Recommended Time: 1 day
Introduction to the Kindergarten and grades 1-12 ACCESS for ELLs assessment. Participants will learn how to administer the Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking parts as well as practice scoring speaking responses. Additional topics include the relationship between the ELP Standards and ACCESS for ELLs, test organization, tier placement, test logistics, ordering test materials, and accessing the online training course.

ACCESS for ELLs® Interpretation of Score Reports

Recommended Time: 2 hours - 1 day
Learn about each of the five ACCESS for ELLs Score Reports. The five reports include: Parent/Guardian, Teacher, Student Roster, School Frequency, and District Frequency. This workshop will review the purpose and structure of ACCESS for ELLs, how to read and understand the ACCESS for ELLs score reports, and the programmatic implications of ACCESS for ELLs scores. Additional topics could include an introduction to differentiating instruction using the Teacher Report along with the CAN DO Descriptors or the ELP Standards.

W-APT Test Administration

Recommended Time: 1 day
This workshop will covers the Kindergarten and grades 1-12 WIDA ACCESS Placement Test. Participants will learn how to administer the Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking parts as well as practice scoring speaking and writing responses.
